You can find Guadalupe Mountains National Park to the east of El Paso, Texas. Guadalupe Peak, at 8,751 feet, is Texas’s tallest peak. Before the Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach line was established, El Capitan was utilized as a signpost for those traveling along the route. There is a stagecoach station remains close-by to Pine Springs visitor center.

The path to Smith Spring begins at the renovated Frijole Ranch, which now houses a historical museum. A national park of 86,367 acres, it is located within the same range of mountains as Carlsbad Caverns National Park, that lies about 25 miles to the north in New Mexico.
