Firearms Information in Yellowstone National Park

Federal law permits those who are allowed to possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws to do so in Yellowstone.

Before entering the park, it is your obligation to understand and comply with all applicable state, municipal, and federal weapons regulations. Yellowstone National Park spans portions of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, and each state has distinct regulations: Follow the linked links to find out more information.

It is also important to note, federal legislation prohibits the possession of guns in some park facilities, including visitor centers and government offices; notices are posted at all public entrances.

They make it clear that guns should not be considered a strategy for protecting yourself against wildlife. Bear spray and other safety procedures are the only approaches that have been demonstrated to prevent bear and other wildlife interactions.

Additional Information About Yellowstone National Park

For the record, Yellowstone National Park has been around longer than any other national park. Ulysses S. Grant, as President, made the statement. The park’s 10,000 hydrothermal features get their heat from a sea of molten rock thousands of feet below the surface of an ancient paradise perched on a supervolcano.

The area erupts with acidic steam and deadly vapors from its Mammoth Hot Springs, seething mud pots, and fumaroles. The thermophile microorganisms that live in its liquids are responsible for the trippy hues that decorate the surface of the water.

Old Faithful is the best-known of the park’s several geysers. Every 90 minutes or so, it suddenly spikes.

Even more stunning is the Steamboat Geyser. Water is launched hundreds of feet into the sky. Greater numbers of mammals can be found in Yellowstone than in any other location in the lower 48 states.

You can find everything from tiny rodents like mountain voles and pikas to massive mammals like moose and elk. The bison formerly populated much of North America, but they were nearly wiped out by the 1800s, when hunters slaughtered over 50 million of the animals.

There are no other places in the United States where bison survived into the twentieth century besides the park. They grew from 23 at the turn of the 20th century to the current population of 5,000 in Yellowstone.
