P365 Review

History & Origins

It was 2018 when SIG Sauer first released the P365 at the world renown (at least for gun enthusiasts) SHOT Show. This striker-fired 9mm handgun (marketed as a sub-compact CCW handgun) quickly took the concealed carry market by storm. Being the first of its kind, the SIG P365 was highly anticipated by gun enthusiasts and publications alike. 

Just three years later and the P line has expanded to provide a wide variety of options capable of accommodating just about anyone on the market.

Key Features

Safety

I have now had the P365 with the manual safety for several months and it has become my edc gun. I never worry about an accidental discharge anymore. 

The safety is easy to manipulate and does not get in the way when shooting. I highly recommend this gun to anyone looking for a small, lightweight carry gun.

Trigger

The next thing I noticed was the trigger. I've spent years carrying a Glock and have gotten used to a generic, unimpressive but serviceable trigger. The P365, however, is different. It has an excellent trigger straight out of the box, which definitely helps with making accurate, quick hits on target. 

The trigger pull is very smooth and breaks cleanly. It's not a match trigger in terms of pull weight, but it's quite good for its intended purpose. The trigger blade is curved, which may not be as attractive as the current straight blade trend to some, but it's quite comfortable. I really like the factory trigger.

Sights

The SIG P365 comes equipped with some pretty decent sights. The SIG Siglite offer their standard three dot tritium sights; the front site is green, while the rear sites are painted black. 

This allows for the sights to be blacked out during daylight. While these aren't my optimal sights, they're arguably perfect for the 365. The front sight could be a little bit brighter, but it's good enough to avoid spending $100-$250 for replacement sights.

How Does The P365 Perform?

Accuracy

This gun is pretty accurate for its size. I think that the reason for this is the design of the frame with the continuous rail. This allows the slide to ride smoothly and come back to the same position after each shot. The trigger pull is also clean and consistent, which helps with accuracy. In addition, the 10-round magazine gives you a good grip on the gun. All of these factors contribute to the gun's accuracy.

Reliability

After running a few hundred rounds through the gun, I can say that it's a definite improvement over the original. The P365 has great potential to be a concealable and effective self-defense weapon. The only drawback I’ve found so far is that it doesn't seem to like light 124gr reloads. Seven out of nine mags of that ammo caused the slide to fail to lock back. Other than that, this gun is incredibly reliable. I even put it through some extreme tests, like freezing it and shooting it, and it still performed admirably.

Ergonomics

The ergonomics of the SIG P365 feel great in the hand, even for large-handed shooters. The only issue I have is the gun's length, but from a shooting standpoint, it's a great gun. I can pick it up and shoot it without any problems.
