Buyer's Guide: Firearm Cleaner

How to Properly Clean Your Air Rifles

G96 Firearm Cleaner / Degreaser is an eco-friendly, water-based degreasing solvent for use on hard and metal surfaces. It's also used to eliminate oil and hydrocarbon residues from metal and nonmetal surfaces, as well as to remove any other organic material and deposits from the surface. This safe, easy to use cleaning fluid can be used on glass, copper, pewter, stainless steel, aluminum, tin and more. The G96 also cleans upholstery and textiles with ease.

While many commercial firearm cleaners are environmentally friendly and chemical free, Gun cleaning experts recommend the use of a firearm cleaner that contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). G96 works great on all firearm parts, as it leaves no powder residue behind, keeping your guns clean after they're fired. Unlike commercial cleaners that can strip the oils and wax off of your favorite gun, G96 won't have any effect on the finish of your firearm.

When cleaning any firearm, you always want to keep in mind that you should never use a harsh chemical cleaner or one that's excessively hot. Before you begin, make sure to let your firearm sink in water for at least a half hour to soften the powder. Then, using a soft cloth or polishing pad, gently wipe down the entire barrel, going from front to back. Never use a q-tip or other fast drying pads on your firearm unless it is recommended by the manufacturer. In addition, you should not apply lubrication when cleaning your firearms. In general, when you use lubricant it will prevent your firearm from loosening up during cleaning, but it will also cause damage over time.

Because there are different types of solvents that you can use on your firearms, you should make sure to follow any instructions for the specific type of solvent that you are going to use. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's direction when it comes to the type of lube or oil that you are going to apply to your firearm. Some types of lubricants work better with certain types of cleaning solvents. For example, silicon oil will work best with Ultrasonic cleaners. There are also solvents that work well on most types of firearms, including some brands of ammunition, although these solvents can cause damage to your firearm if used in excessive amounts. If in doubt about what type of solvent you need to use, always consult the instruction manual that came with your firearm.

Some people prefer using gun cleaning compounds instead of cleaning tools. If you decide to use these types of gun cleaning agents, be sure that the chemicals that you choose are safe for your firearms. Some solvents may harm your firearm if they are absorbed into the metal, which is why it is important that you check the bottle or container that the chemicals are stored in for safety. The solvents may also discolor your grips, especially if you store them near a ultraviolet light source.

Gun cleaning solutions come in a variety of different types, including brush on type cleaners and canisters that have suction cups. Each has its own specific purpose, so be sure to choose the right firearm cleaner for the job that you want to complete. For example, if you are looking to clean bb's, you should use a brush on firearm cleaner and use long strokes to scrub the entire piece of equipment. A canister type cleaner is great for gun cleaning, because it can soak up a whole lot easier and can scrub the gun parts in between.

There are many ways to clean your firearm. One way is by using a firearm solvent that you can purchase at your local gun store or online. This type of cleaner works great on cleaning the bb's and it doesn't leave any residue behind. This type of cleaner won't corrode anything, making it a popular choice among many people who like to keep firearms as pristine as possible. However, this can be a bit more expensive than the brush type cleaner, and isn't always available when you need it.

For air rifles, you can use either a solvent, or a combination of both. Air guns tend to get a whole lot dirtier than firearms, which is why they need a more specific cleaning method. Solvent gun cleaning kits are easy to use, safe, affordable, and effective way of keeping your air rifles pristine. You can also keep them looking new with the added benefit of better slide actions.
