Buyer's Guide: Gun Cases For Rifles

Choosing Between Gun Cases For Rifles

The single best way to safely conceal your weapon is to purchase a high quality muzzle device. However, with the wrong type of case, finding one that properly fits your gun can become a rather challenge. Whether you're shopping for a hip carrying gun case or a rigid-fold case designed to protect against impact impacts, there are a variety of selections out there. But when it comes to a rifle case, don't make your decision based on name recognition only. There are actually many features and functions that all quality cases have that other cases aren't manufactured with.

Let's start with durability. When you're dealing with something as important as your firearms safety, you want to be sure that you're investing in a product that's going to hold up under some abuse over time. The least you can do is buy a good case that's designed to hold up against harsh weather conditions, including constant exposure to rain and wind. Additionally, if you need to transport your firearm around often, go with a rolling case instead of a hard case. In addition, if you need to transport your tactical rifle cases while in the field, go with a hard case because it's less likely to be susceptible to impact damage.

Security is another big concern when choosing the right case for your guns. You certainly don't want a flimsy plastic zipper breaking while transporting your tactical rifle from the range to the range or from the garage to your house. Fortunately, gun cases with foam inserts are a great investment that provide extra security for your firearm. Foam insert cases provide both extra security as well as added comfort. A single rifle case with a double layer of foam will help protect your pistol at the same time as keeping it easy to access when you need it.

There are two main types of gun cases for rifles: open and wrap. Both have their advantages, but which one you should choose comes down to personal preference. Both styles have their upsides and downsides, so weigh your options carefully. While both styles of gun cases for rifles allow you to easily access your gun case when needed, a single-strap gun case is better for rifles than the double-strapped style.

If you're looking for extra storage options, look for gun cases with key features. A plano rustrictor tactical rifle case provides both extra storage space and key lock/security features. A key lock helps prevent unauthorized access to your gun, while the durable steel bottom helps ensure that it doesn't get scratched up. This plano rustrictor case has a front sling for easy access, and includes an interior nylon bag for long-term storage.

An easy way to add more security to your guns is with crushproof lids, which protect from impacts. There are several types of crushproof lids available. One is the high-impact polymer, which has rubberized impact pads around its entire perimeter. These features help protect against kicks and other knocks that can damage your pistol's finish. The high-impact polymer can also withstand being slammed against a solid object, such as a locker in a public locker room.

There are also two types of high-impact polymer gun cases, both with and without lock hasps. The standard high-impact polymer case is made with an aluminum or stainless steel lock hasps along with a rubberized interior. The double-fold high-impact case has a nylon interior and a rubberized exterior. This type offers the most protection and features, as well as having the most options. The double-fold case is often made with a nylon lining and high-impact polymers.

Finally, there are several eylar mil-spec tactical rifle cases available in addition to high-impact and double-fold options. These include gun cases with hard plastic linings and zippers, or hard foam interiors and flip flops. Some models have key features, such as locking or non-locking zippers, or a nylon lining. These features provide extra protection for your pistol, as well as extra convenience, since you don't have to open the gun case to use it.
