Buyer's Guide: Gun Sights

Types Of Gun Sights

Gun sights are devices used for aiming at a specific distance at the time of a gun shot. It helps to align the trajectory of the bullet with the sight line, thus enabling the user to align the shot with a known goal. A gun sight is normally a movable aiming device typically used for aiming at a specific distance, visually aligning optical instruments, ranged weapons or other optical detection devices with the desired target. The range of the sight is usually expressed as the reciprocal of the gun's bore length in millimeters; in the United States, the maximum range of this device is 100 yards. However, some sights are available in other countries that provide a further range of up to 500 yards.

There are two main types of gun sights that may be used: fixed and detachable. Fixed gun sights are often mounted on the left side of the firearm. The term "fixed" indicates that the sight can not be rotated. On the other hand, the term "detachable" indicates that it can be rotated along an axis relative to the firearm. In addition, both the fixed and detachable types may also be combined, which allows for a combination of aiming features.

There are three basic aiming conventions used in gun sights: the parallax, horizontal and vertical. The parallax refers to the natural movement in guns when the bullet is fired. For example, when the shooter aims for the left-hand target, the sight would be pointing to the left as the bullet passes over the front of the target. Horizontal alignment is the opposite of the parallax, which occurs when the bullet exits the gun barrel after being fired. Vertical is the opposite of the horizontal, which occurs when the bullet exits the gun barrel after being fired.

There are two primary types of Gun Sights with unique rotary controls. One is called the telescopic and the other is the fixed. In the Telescopic type, the sight has a rotating wheel on its side, which rotates vertically through the vertical adjustment. This design makes it ideal for mounting on telescopic rifles and shotguns.

The fixed front sight, also known as the red dot sights, use a mirror to reflect the image from the front of the barrel onto the target. Because of this design, the red dot sights are commonly mounted on handguns. Red dot sights also utilize a mirror, which helps them create an image that appears much larger than a normal front sight.

The third primary type of sight is the reflex sight, which uses a reflective surface to create a crosshairs target in any direction. Reflex sights are commonly mounted on pistols and revolvers. This type of sight has an adjustable eye relief, making it suitable for use in any firearm.

The fourth type of sight is the laser, which uses lasers to provide faraway target focus. Lasers may be used in airsoft guns or other airsoft devices, depending on their level of customization. Most Lasers function by using a small laser diode, or a fiber optic. Lasers are most commonly powered by a small cell phone battery, or an energy cell supplied by a power company.

Gun Sights can be custom made, for a number of uses. They can be made for use with one's chosen rifle, shotgun, handgun, or even a cross bow. Custom designs can be made with various accessory add-ons including laser pointers, mounts for optics, laser emitters, etc. Gun Sights can be used for hunting, for security, for surveillance, or as personal decorations.

Among the most popular gun sights are red dot sights, which are perfect for target identification aiming. These sights produce a beam of red light that is parallel to the bore of the firearm, which helps to align the target with the crosshairs. The red dot can be manually aimed at the target, or can be automatically adjusted depending upon the elevation of the firearm. Red dot sights produce a high level of illumination, which can help to locate the target.

An Aimpoint aiming point is another popular aiming device. An Aimpoint consists of an optical lens and a hand-powered, battery operated laser. The laser emits a pre-determined amount of red light, which falls onto the lens. The red dot sight produces a high level of illumination, which enables the hunter to see things clearly, even at great distances. This is because of the reflective surface of the Aimpoint.

Other types of tactical and hunting optics include holographic sights and crosshair sights, which utilize holographic sights with LED indicators, and crosshair reticles that provide varying levels of crosshairs on the reticle. Both of these devices use LED technology to create a crosshair reticle. Hunters using holographic sights can see small targets at great distances, and are excellent for hunting animals like deer and elk. Crosshair reticles are useful for tracking wild boars and bear, and can be adjusted to display different images.
