Buyer's Guide: P226 Holster

Caring For Your P226 Holster

The Sig Sauer P226 is a sub-machine gun, or in other words, a pistol that can be fully converted to a fully-working semi-automatic rifle. The original pistol design by Sig has been used in the US military and police forces for over a century, and even though the original model was deemed to be very unreliable and generally unattractive by most consumers, the latest models have been redesigned to drastically improve on their appearance while simultaneously becoming much more powerful than their predecessors. In this review I will compare the P226 holsters of the Smith & Wesson models with those of the P226 Holster. This review will focus on the differences between the two primary models and general review tips of the P226 Holster.

The first thing we look at in the P226 holsters comparison is the retention screw. The retention screw, which can either be easily adjusted, or if it is poorly fitted, will cause your gun to jam more often. If you are a righty (for right handed people) then the lefty versions of the P226 holster will have a different screw installed than the ones for lefties. You can easily measure how much engagement you have with the screw by pulling the trigger and touching the slide's hammer back. If you have a lot of retention, then this screw will definitely have a significant affect on how the gun fires.

Adjustable canting is another important feature of the P226. The gun will work much better if it can be adjusted properly, and can help you to achieve more consistency when shooting. A good holster should fit your particular gun well, and the P226 is no exception. There are a few holsters out there that are too small, or too big for your gun, and the P226 fits into these well. The adjustments allow for very fine adjustments, and allow you to have the gun completely relaxed until you are ready to fire.

The magazine catch on the p226 is an important part of any P226 Holster. Many of the pistol models out there have magazine slips that are very hard to get off. The P226 was designed with two magazine pockets, which allow you to get the magazines out without undoing your belt or un-holstering the pistol. This allows for fast and easy magazine changes.

Picatinny rails are not really a feature of the P226, but many people prefer them over the regular grip. These rails are actually attached to the side of the frame rather than to the butt of the gun. They are designed so that the shooter can place the pad between their cheek and the upper rail of the Picatinny rail and then rest the pad against the front of the frame. This gives a firm grip on the gun and keeps your hands away from the pistol's recoil path. The picatinny rail is available in a wide variety of colors, sizes and styles to accommodate whatever your tastes may be.

If you want something a bit more unique, then you may want to consider one of the double action P226 holsters. A double action (double action means that the sear is simultaneously pulled and held) P226 gives the gun the feel of a semi-automatic pistol as it fires multiple shots. While these guns are not popular with most consumers, those who hunt frequently will tell you that they offer great versatility and reliability. The double action (dak trigger) P226 comes with a traditional spring loaded slammer cocking device, and can be equipped with a heavy duty rubber grip.

If your handgun will be used for hunting, then you may need some type of retention component to help keep it in its holster. Many hunters carry an extra of ammunition pouch or belt clip in addition to their handgun. If you decide to add an extra retention product, make sure that it matches the type of handgun that you have. There are many P226 holsters that are compatible with Remingtons and Smith & Wesson Models. These additional retention components help to protect your handgun from being damaged while it is in your holster.

P226 holsters are typically available in three different sizes. You can get a X-large, X-Small, or Y-small bedside model to accommodate whatever kind of gun that you will be carrying. If you purchase a P226 through your bedside bag, then it will provide a comfortable way to transport your firearm. If you purchase a P226 through your carry bag, then it provides a comfortable way to transport your firearm to and from the hunting or sporting supplies area.
