A Pulsar thermal scope, as you probably know is a thermal imaging device that uses radio waves to detect the heat movement inside an object. This technology was first developed in the 1970's and it is still incredibly popular today. These days you can find them in nearly every law enforcement and medical field. I myself have had one of these devices for about a decade. If you are interested in buying one, or searching for one used, here are some things to consider.

The first thing is the sensor resolution. This is actually very important, especially if you are using the scope in your line of duty. The higher the sensor resolution, the better your images will be. The lower the resolution, the less detail you can see, which makes for poor thermal analysis.

It's important to note that there are two different types of sensor resolution. There is the optical resolution, which is usually higher than the digital scopes. Then you have the digital scopes, which utilize a laser to translate the thermal image into an electronic signal. Both types of scopes have their advantages and disadvantages, so you need to research the various options before you make a final decision on what type of scope to buy.

One of the most common types is a C-mount scopes, which typically have a long range imaging power, high image quality, high recoil and a low temperature limit. The C-mount scopes use a standard lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack to operate for up to eight hours per charge. They are lightweight and easy to carry with an optional carrying strap. These scopes can be used with a low-profile or a high-end external battery pack for extended usage.

High-end scopes have many additional features. Some have the ability to rapidly switch between various magnifications, and have the capability to focus by shifting the lens. Other scopes provide a very rapid internal refresh rate, a high line of sight and the ability to elevate the reticle to make shots from a cover position. Many of these high end scopes also offer red eye reduction, allowing the operator to remain more accurate when looking through the scope.

Pulsar is one manufacturer that provides a scope with an external battery pack, but they also have a model that offers an internal rechargeable battery. Most models in the range are equipped with an external flip-up lens cap, but there are some models available with an internal red eye reduction dial. The laser rangefinder and magnification dial is a good size, and it comes with a non-reflective, leather-cover shell. It has an optical zoom that is 9x magnification, giving an impressive preview of the image as it is being captured. It has a large full-power reticle, which enables it to achieve a relatively long distance with excellent accuracy.

Compared to other manufacturers, Pulsar has the best battery life and the longest battery life of any scope on the market today. A regular charger can be used to maintain the battery life, and it should be taken care to read the manufacturer's guidelines for the use and care of the scope. It is important not to attempt to replace or recharge the battery if the scope is damaged. Doing so can cause severe damage to the internal workings of the scope, and can shorten its lifespan.
