Buyer's Guide: USPSA Targets

Buyers Guide: Uspsa Targets

Suppose you are a keen shooter but find it boring to put the same holes into the same static paper at the indoor range. You might be interested in competitive shooting. The United States Practical Shooting Association is a great place to begin.

What is the USPSA?

USPSA is both the sport and the name of its governing body, the United States Practical Shooting Association. It is the most well-known practical shooting sport, with 38,000 members.

Are you ready for the USPSA?

The USPSA provides a foundation for the development of skills required to defend with a firearm. Before you go to your first match, make sure you do an honest assessment of your current skills. If you are unable to perform these tasks safely, then you cannot participate in USPSA.

Drawing from a Holster: Although this may seem obvious, many shooters find that they only have one place to practice. It is an indoor range that doesn't allow them to draw from a holster. Again, this is something that you should do if it's not something you have done before.

Perform a Reload: Depending on your range facilities, this skill is one that you might not have practiced in live fire. Therefore, you can expect at least one reload to be required on any USPSA stage.

Moving and shooting: You may not shoot and move with a firearm if you have never attended any training classes. Indoor gun ranges are the only place where many people practice their shooting skills.

There are instructional YouTube videos available that can help you with any of these skills. But, it is highly recommended that you learn them from a trained firearms instructor.

The official target for competitions is sanctioned under the United States Practical Shooting Association. The Standard USPSA Silhouette Target measures approximately 18" wide by 30" and is die-cut from 1/8 inch corrugated board. The 2018 update has three scoring zones. Only Alpha, Charlie, and Delta have perforations.

Targets are available in kraft brown on their front and white on their back. This primary target is used in all USPSA sanctioned shooting events. Target Barn prides itself on producing the best USPSA targets for more than three decades.

Here I will talk about the top USPSA Targets.

IPSC/USPSA Water Resistant Cardboard Target

The Challenge Targets USPSA Cardboard Targets have been approved and inspected by the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) in 2019. Perforated scoring zones allow for faster scoring and accuracy. This is the preferred method of most match directors and range officials. In addition, this target includes a water-resistant additive that prevents warping and delamination in wet conditions. This chemical additive is not a wax coating, and it does not affect the adhesion to target pasters.<br>Scoring lines can be perforated to make it easy and precise to score targets. Dimensions overall: 29.93 inches high x 18.12 inches wide Additives that are water-resistant help reduce warping and delamination in wet conditions.

KRATE Tactical Cardboard Targets

KRATE Tactical USPSA cardboard targets have perforated zones that allow for precise and easy target scoring. For shoot and no-shoot, the target is printed on one side and plain on the other.

Solid Tactical AR500 Steel Shooting Targets - USPSA

High carbon steel that is hardened for repeated targets. Bullets will vaporize or bounce off the target on impact. Industries leading target plates that can withstand the most severe tests. Each hit produces a perfect sound.

To start, you don't have to be a pro at any one of these skills. It is enough to be competent in the skills required to perform them safely. Safely means performing the task with the muzzle pointed downrange, keeping it in a safe place, and not accidentally releasing the firearm.

You will need a gun capable of firing USPSA ammunition or a set of targets and shooting tips if you wish to shoot at USPSA targets. There are many targets that you can use to practice USPSA. We hope you find this guide helpful and that it helps you to purchase your USPSA Target.
