Additional Information About Rocky Mountain National Park
There are 77 peaks in this park that are over 12,000 feet in elevation, making it a paradise for mountaineers and hikers. Scary heights include Diamond, which soars to a vertical distance of 2,000 feet, and Long Peak, which soars to a height of 14,259 feet. The evergreen forests, alpine tundra, and little wildflower meadows are perfect for tourists who don’t want to take any chances with their lives.
Grizzly bears have been eradicated from this territory straddling the Continental Divide, but moose, bighorn sheep, and elk have been successfully reintroduced to what is now the fourth most visited park in the United States.
“The Rockies are…uniquely rich with mountain views that fire the blood and make life stronger and sweeter,” stated naturalist Enos Mills, also known as the “father of Rocky Mountain National Park.”
