Using a Barrel Vise 

The barrel vise is a versatile tool that is used to safely hold the barrel on the lathe. It is made to support the weight of the barrel while holding the rod in place. It provides a strong holding device to secure the barrel on the lathe. There are many different manufacturers that produce the barrel vise. It can be purchased in a variety of sizes depending on the size of the barrel to be held.

The best barrel vise for your needs will depend on the type of work that you do and the type of material being worked with. The best vises provide tremendous holding power for securely clamping your barrel onto the workbench. The vise comes with two pre-drilled steel blocks, a 1-1/2" bar clamp and a 3/4 " bar clamp for customizing the cut to the specific diameter needs. There are many other types of vise that can be used for various types of drilling. You can also have the vise custom made to fit the dimensions of the barrel. The basic design of the barrel vise will have a large cutting surface at the end of a bar and a bushing at the other end.
