The Basics of Corner Gun Racks
Corner gun racks are made with strength and durability for use in protecting ones handgun. It prevents damage and deterioration of both the firearm and the storage container. The invention also provides for easy access by the user when desired. There are various types of corner gun racks which are available in the market today.
A main object of the present invention relates to a preferred foresight O i, 958, Patentented July 1, 1960 sight of a novel means of securing firearms in an organized manner and to allow quick and easy removal of the firearms from the corner gun rack when the said rack is to be fitted in a carrying case. This particular invention relates to a system of joining two vertically spaced arms having webbing on their respective ends. This invention also relates to a frame having a second horizontal bar and a bottom edge of this frame at its right angle to the vertical bar. This frame has a locking means for keeping the arms of the gun in their locking positions.
The frame of the corner gun rack 1 is provided with a plurality of metal pieces and these pieces are preferably rectangular in shape. The bottom rail of this frame is generally slightly sloped towards the end of the frame so that it may be readily slid into the carrying case or into the wall of the room in which one is going to place the firearm. The bottom rail is provided with a lip on its right edge. The bottom lip is adapted to slide in or out of the carrying case easily and smoothly. This lip also prevents the left or right handed from sliding out the left or right side of the carrying case when one discharges the firearm from the same. The right and left handed can also fire the weapon equally without any interference.
Corner gun racks are generally arranged in two different positions, the first in the vertical position and the other in the horizontal position. In the vertical position the arms of the rack are arranged at an angle to the vertical. This arrangement permits one to have all his guns at an eye level and also enables him to survey them from any angle in any direction. Even though the guns may not be pointed at any particular area they can be placed in the front of the cabinet at a proper distance from the rest of the guns.
In the horizontal position the gun rack is arranged in the usual manner. The guns are arranged at an angle to the vertical and some are even mounted on stands. This provides the user with a better and more convenient view of the guns than those provided by the vertical position of the gun rack. With the standing guns the user can survey them from any angle by simply tilting his head. Even though they are closer to the user they are also mounted on higher positions than the guns fitted in the vertical position.
One of the most advantageous features of this type of gun rack is that they are usually arranged in the front of the cabinet, which allows easy access to the guns from any angle. This is made possible because the angle formed by the horizontal rail is inclined slightly towards the user's position. Thus the user can move his arm out of the way to shift his sight from one side of the cabinet to another without having to turn his head. Also, with the standing guns being arranged at an angle the angle formed by the front slabs can be viewed from any direction. This gives the user a much easier time when handling the gun.
The third type of gun rack is the tilting type, in this arrangement the guns are arranged so that they can be tilted. Usually the tilting rack includes a locking rod in the center and is supported at rear or front portions by two stands. This type of gun rack comes with locking rods fixed at both the ends of the rails so that the user can place the guns in any suitable angle and then lock them into place.
One feature that must be taken care of is that when you are placing the guns in the tilting rack, that the pivot point for both the hanging rails should be placed very close to each other, especially when you are using pistol racks. This ensures that there is no difficulty while pulling back the firing pin to load a new round. Another important function of the locking rod in the locking mechanism is that it prevents the guns from being toppled over. It is a good practice to keep a magazine close to the locking rod, just in case you need to pull the bolt back before using the gun. This will ensure that the magazine does not fall down if the gun accidentally falls on the floor.
