Buyer's Guide: Trigger Guard Holster

Why You Need Trigger Guard Holsters

Trigger guards are an incredibly versatile accessory to have, and for good reason. If you are like most people, you carry more than one handgun. It may seem impractical to have to constantly find places to put down your weapon when you are going to be away from your house for an extended period of time.

Trigger guard holsters provide many advantages over their traditional holster counterparts. In its most basic form, the trigger guard holster is simply a piece of durable kydex that attaches to your belt clip and enables you to safely carry your gun without a traditional holster. This type of holster will work for any style of firearm and many different brands.

There are many ways to wear a trigger guard holster, but the simplest way to use one is as a concealed carry alternative to a belt holster. This can be done in one of two ways. One method involves putting the holster on your belt with the bottom of the lanyard exposed. The other method entails placing the lanyard through the hole in your belt where the belt clips through your pants. Either way, the lanyard ends up either inside your pants or on your hips while still leaving your hands free.

Trigger guards can also be used as a substitute for an extra magazine holster when you do not want to carry a firearm. For instance, if you plan to go target shooting, you could take a bulletproof jacket along with you and load it onto your trigger guard holster. After you've had some practice at the range, you can simply take your gun out of the holster and "drop" the magazine instead of trying to manually load it. This is an excellent option for those who are not always comfortable carrying a firearm with them. They can then wear the jacket over their gun instead of a traditional holster which is often more cumbersome.

Another use for a trigger guard holster includes the use of a paracord cord to allow the holster to be clipped onto belt loops on both regular pistols and glock 42 firearms. A paracord bracelet works in much the same way as a pistol belt buckle by allowing the gun to be drawn with one hand while the other is free. This is convenient because it does not interfere with the shooter's aim. Since the holster doesn't need to actually clip the firearm through the belt, it will generally have a shorter overall length than traditional belt holsters. In addition, since the glock can be worn in place of a conventional belt buckle, this type of holster will give a more secure fit.

A final use for a trigger guard holster involves the use of these items to conceal any type of handgun. If you are interested in concealed carry of this type, it is best to stay away from the term trigger guard holster since they are designed to attach to the top of the firearm where the bullet will hit when it is in the chamber. Instead, you should look towards holsters that are designed with the bottom rails already attached to the firearm. These types will allow the bullet to "clip" through the bottom rail when it hits the target and remain securely within the gun's chamber.

Other applications for this type of holster include concealment of a pistol that may be kept in a vehicle, in addition to the more common home, vehicle and range uses. Some people also choose to use a kydex or Sig sauer style holster when concealment is required. These are similar to traditional clip holsters and are designed to work in place of a traditional belt holster or other types that may be too cumbersome for some. The kydex and Sig sauer are especially popular with military and police personnel because of their easy to remove features.

All three of the mentioned uses for trigger guard holsters are very valid depending on the situation. However, the most common reason to use one of these is to provide easy access to the firearm when it is needed. For this reason, it is especially important to choose the right kind of holster for the application. Fortunately, the Internet makes it simple to research and select the best kydex and Sig sauer style holsters for your specific needs.
